About me
I am a choice-based art educator, and my practice is informed by TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) pedagogy. Through TAB, we believe that the child is the artist, and we ask the seemingly simple question "What do artists do?" We work to build the 8 studio habits of mind: Express, Develop Craft, Envision, Understand Art in Community, Observe, Engage & Persist, Reflect, and Stretch & Explore. The true and authentic work of children is honored, and lessons and techniques are taught with the intention to give students tools to engage in the studio habits of mind and develop as artists. I am also a reading specialist, which informs my work as an art teacher. I work with many English language learners and I am a Spanish language learner. I encourage the development of translanguaging in my art studio. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the Early-Middle childhood Art domain. I have been teaching for over 26 years and have worked in Barrington 220 for the past 22 years.
